2024 has been quite a year for me. I have been slowly draining myself on my job to the point that I was basically been running on empty this year. It got to the point that I had to simply quit because there was no way that I would be able to recharge myself; simply taking my vacation days was just not enough; the job itself was just too much - too much work, not enough staff, constantly needing new staff (and hence a lot of training time), not enough time to have enough brain space to help make my job easier and move things forward so that we could have processes to make it easier, and the list goes on. Plus with how the election turned out, I'm glad (and extremely grateful) that we were in a place in which I could quit and not have to worry (or much more realistically: work even harder and longer!) with/about all the craziness that comes with our incoming 47th President (apparently, he plans to "streamline" and downsize the government and it would've fallen on me to "make it happen", including laying off staff or trying to make a shrinking budget stretch in an impossible way).
On the bright side, I was able to continue to work at home (until I determined that I wouldn't be working at all! π€π); so, while I didn't have much brain space or energy for very much this year, I was able to get some knitting time in this year. Here's my (meager) accomplishments for the year:
- Finished my first sweater for Hubs!
- Made a spare Phillips Dreamwear Headgear-Cover for Hubs (part 2!)
- Made a l-o-t of stuffed animals!
- Made headphone covers for Hubs' headphones
- Finished a lighter weight sweater for Hubs!
- Made not 1, but 2! Emotional Support Chicken for myself
- Made 2 drying mats for the kitchen
- Made an Emotional Support Owl for myself
- Made a few Christmas ornaments for myself
- And, I was also able to:
- Enjoy all of my knitting purchases from 2020-2023 and items I purchased this year (at the very least) ππππ₯°π
- But, I wasn't able to:
- Keep up with my knitting or blogging! ππΆππ±ππ€¦ It was the least amount of posts (and items made!) since I started knitting!π±ππππ€¦
- (As always), Use more stash! My goal is to get down to 1 (not overly stuffed) sock yarn box (still there!ππ); I've also reduced my polyester yarn where I only have enough polyester yarn to finish a pending crochet project!π³π±ππ (yes, it's no longer in a container!π₯³π); 1 Scheepjes Catona yarn box (totally haven't worked on this! πππ€¦); 1 very small batch of poly stuffing (I originally had 2 boxes (1 in a container like the yarn and 1 in the original box) but I'm now down to what looks like a very small stuffed animal's worth of poly stuffing!π±π₯³ππ(And, I've officially freed up another container!!π±ππ I'll be using what I can for my crocheted bugs or I'll be getting wool stuffing after this!π₯³π) and 1 sweater/"other"/leftover yarn box (almost there! there's still a couple of other miscellaneous projects in there to clear out, I know I'm getting closer to turning over yet another yarn box to a completed sweater box!ππππ).
- Ultimate goal: not to actually have that much (if any) stash! (ok, well maybe just "some" sock stashπππ€)
- Knit more sweaters! Particularly since my goal for the year was to meet or beat my 3 sweater goal set in 2022 was not met!π³π± (And, a major part of this goal for 2025 is to also free up this container!) My (ultimate) goal is to actually have a combination of fall-winter and three (3) season sweaters for myself so I don't have to travel to wear my sweaters. I would love to be able to enjoy wearing lighter sweaters (on a more daily basis) while at home (even if I'm just at home).ππππ Unfortunately, my current sweater stash has much heavier DK weight yarn so, it's a tad too warm to wear them other than in the dead of winter where I live (even then, I can't necessarily wear it all day because it simply gets too hot) ... I might need to get bulk up my sock yarn stash to make more three-season sweaters ... π€πππ€
- Along with this goal is to knit Hubs a few more sweaters too or some other knitted garment he wants!π³π₯³ This will help to expand my repertoire!
- Get back to working on my first 100% (superwash) wool blanket!π³π±πππ€¦π€· In my drive to use up stash, I still haven't gone back to it (yet).
- Blog more regularly, which will mean that I'm knitting more!
- Have a purchasing "pause" for all new knitting things (unless warranted - like I want to make something and I don't have the yarn for it or I need more yarn to supplement what I have) - Maybe a six (6) month hiatus??π€π€π€
- Start?/Finish? a crochet bug doll collection (that I may very well keep for myself!ππ₯° at least for a little while - it's just so cute!π€). Unfortunately, like last year, I still didn't feel like I had the brain power to learn enough crochet skills to move forward.π³πππ€¦π€· Maybe I will next year ...π€ππ€π
