2022 has been a year in which many people have simply given up and have simply gone back to their pre-COVID life, despite having newer and more contagious (more like hyper-contagious) COVID variants that emerged this year. For Hubs and I, life has remained the same if not even a bit more restrictive and/or more hypervigilant to these newer & more contagious variants. We try to go out when we only absolutely, necessarily need to now and only wear N95 (or better) masks when we do go out, especially if we need to interact with others (aka talking to anyone at the supermarket or doctor's office). As we weren't really going out before, the change of going out even less than that hasn't really had much of an impact on us; it has definitely made us much more efficient in our meal preps as well as how we shop for food (& anything else) now. An important thing (to me) that I'd like to note is: Nearly half (if not more!) of folks in one of my Centers have caught COVID, some of my own staff has caught it (& one staff member has caught it multiple times already), and the fact that my staff has also asked my advice on getting their third booster (which (of course) I totally recommended that they do so, particularly if they're feeling comfortable enough to do so (as I can't mandate them to get their third booster)) has just emphasized to me that we really to be more hypervigilant about the "state of affairs" around us. Keeping us safe and healthy has definitely become an even higher priority now as it has become clear that we're on our own at this juncture.
On the bright side, I was able to continue to work from home and as our lifestyle hasn't changed, it also meant that (in theory) there was more time to knit so, here's my accomplishments for the year:
- Made two (2) pairs of uwabaki (slippers) for my moms
- Made a "summer" pair of uwabaki for my mom and niece.
- Made more socks for my MIL
- Made a family of hedgehogs for my nephews (my younger cousin's boys) and my niece
- (Actually) Darned a pair of socks! π³π±π€π
- "Adjusted" Hubs CPAP headgear
- Made a few pairs of shorties for myself
- Made a pair of shorties for Hubby
- Made a pair of socks for my mom
- (Finally) made a cocoon cardigan for myself
- Made two (2) pairs of uwabaki for myself! π³π±πππ€
- I ended up giving one of them to my niece since she already grew out of the original I made for her - that girl grows F-A-S-T!!π³π±π€·π€
- A lot of teru teru bozus! ππ€
- Finally finished my Wryit sweater! ππππ₯³
- Made another sweater: the Carbeth!π³π±ππ€
- Made a stranded sweater: TrΓΆjan Barbros stjΓ€rnorπ³π±ππππ₯³
- Made a "few" Christmas Trees to start my own grove of holiday trees πππππ☃️❄️
- Made a Winter Friend for my niece
- Started a pair of stranded socks for myself
- Started another sweater: REViVAL
- I was also able to:
- Mostly keep up with my blogging! π π Although I actually had less posts this year though (only 26 posts)! π (and in my defense, I did start a new job in the last year where I'm taking care of two (2!) centers & my job has become all consuming due to an up-tick in project funding (in both Centers - which means that there's more work, not less!) and in turn has taken time away & brain power from my knitting (& blogging).ππ€¦π€·π But, it was becoming too much and I needed to make a choice: work 12+ hours a day or give things up at work so I don't give things up at home. So, I decided that I'd rather be less stellar at work so that I could have much needed home and knitting (& blogging!!) time.π€·π
- Continue to enjoy all of my knitting purchases from 2020 & 2021 and all the items I purchased this year ππππ₯°π
- Met my 2 sweater goal that I accomplished in 2020! I actually made/finished three (3!) sweaters this year! π³π₯°π I hope to be able to beat this goal next year. π€π€π
- Work less, save brain space to knit more! π³πππ€¦π€· The amount of work I have at my current job is worth 2-3 FTEs and I've been putting in crazy hours to just "get by". Either I have to do less (& settle to be a less than my (normal) stellar self) or I need to convince my bosses to split my job up so I no longer need to manage two (2) centers. π€π€π
- (As always), Use more stash! My goal is to get down to 1 (not overly stuffed) sock yarn box (got there!ππ My stash is slowly going down - I actually don't have too much leftover sock yarn now!ππ), 1/2 polyester yarn box (While I still need easy to care for yarn for my little ones to have fun stuff to play with and be able to destroy, they're getting bigger and bigger and not really caring much about knitted toys from me) (working on!), 0 sweater yarn box (slowly working on this and I need to focus more to work on this as I really want to stash my made sweaters in this box! Plus, I have bought a bunch of sweater patterns so I should actually make them!), and 0 "other"/leftover yarn box (almost there! all I have left is 1 small bag of yarn - Goal: no more "other"/inherited yarn!). I did manage to consolidate the "other"/leftover yarn into my other stash boxes so, I actually now have a spare box to stash my hand made sweaters now!ππππ₯³
- Ultimate goal: not to actually have that much (if any) stash (ok, well maybe just some sock stash πππ€)! Getting there!!! - at least I'm now down from 4 boxes of yarn to 3 boxes of yarn!π₯³πππ
- Knit more sweaters! Particularly since I finally finished a sweater I started last year!πππππ (Met my Goal: Knitted at least knit 2 sweaters in 2022; now is it possible for me to actually beat the new goal I set in 2022 of 3 sweaters??π³π±) My (ultimate) goal is to actually have a combination of fall-winter and three (3) season sweaters so I don't have to travel to wear my sweaters. I would love to be able to enjoy wearing lighter sweaters (on a more daily basis) while at home (even if I'm just at home). They say that wool helps to regulate your body temperature to keep you warm when you're cold and keep you cool when you're hot so, I am definitely up to testing that theory! ππ π π
