Rainbow Brite no Seetaa (レインボーブライトのセーター) Reformation

So ... When I finished my original sweater, it was .... "snug" (to put it mildly).  Then I made my Haru no Seeta and I realized that I would never wear my Rainbow Brite no Seetaa (レインボーブライトのセーター). So I took it out of the drawer it was sitting in, found the ends and ... Ripped it out!

In less than two (2) hours, it went from this:

To this:
Then this:
It was amazing how quick it was to rip it out (less than two (2) hours!) when it took me nearly six (6!!) months to make the original sweater!

Now, it's time to begin again. Since my original was "snug", I thought that I'd try again with a
bigger needle size. So, I went up a needle size. With my Chiaogoos US 4, I casted on again and followed my original pattern. After working the collar, I realized that it looked .... terrible.  I ripped it out again and thought about where it was snug - it was snug in the body and the sleeves, not in the collar or yoke area. With that in mind, I knew that I didn't need to change needle sizes, I needed to add additional stitches in that area; as such, I needed to get an additional ball of yarn of 30 Egyptian (on top of the additional ball I had already purchased). So, I managed to find another 30 Egyptian at Amazon.

So, again, I casted on - this time following the original instructions I had (with a few minor corrections as shown in Red):
  1. Using the Twilight yarn (aka Yarn A) and my Chiaogoos US 3, I casted on 210 stitches and joined in the round.
  2. Row 1: Start the first round with a 1x1 ribbing using Yarn A.
  3. Row 2: Continue 1x1 ribbing pattern using the Maroon yarn (aka Yarn B).
  4. Row 3-5 (3 rows): Continue in pattern switching from Yarn A to Yarn B until the ribbing is x 1.5 cm (x 0.5 in), ending  in Yarn A.
  5. Row 6: With Yarn B, switch to stockinette stitch.
  6. Row 7: With Yarn A, continue stockinette stitch, increasing 12 stitches evenly over the  round (additional 17 12 stitches, total 227 222)
  7. Row 8-10 (3 rows): Starting with Yarn B, k in the round and alternating with Yarn A, ending with Yarn B.
  8. Row 11: With Yarn A, increase 11 stitches evenly over the round (additional 20 stitches, for a total of 247 242).
  9. Row 12-16 (5 rows): Starting with Yarn B, k in the round and alternating with Yarn A, ending in Yarn B.
  10. Row 17: With Yarn A, increase 11 stitches evenly over the round (additional 22 stitches, for a total of 269 264).
  11. Row 18-26 (9 rows): Starting with Yarn B, k in the round and alternating with Yarn A, ending in Yarn B.
  12. Row 27: With Yarn A, increase 11 stitches evenly over the round (additional 24 stitches, for a total of 293 288).
  13. Row 28-30 (3 rows): Starting with Yarn B, k in the round and alternating with Yarn A, ending in Yarn B.
  14. Row 31: With Yarn A, increase 6 stitches evenly over the round (additional 49 48 stitches, for a total of 342 336).
  15. Row 32-42 (11 rows): Starting with Yarn B, k in the round and alternating with Yarn A, ending in Yarn B.
  16. Row 43: With Yarn A, increase 12 stitches evenly over the round (additional 28 stitches, for a total of 370 364).
  17. Row 44-56 (13 rows): Starting with Yarn B, k in the round and alternating with Yarn A, ending in Yarn B.
  18. Row 57: With Yarn A, increase 12 stitches evenly over the round (additional 30 stitches, for a total of 400 394).
  19. Row 58-66 (9 rows): Starting with Yarn B, k in the round and alternating with Yarn A, ending in Yarn B.
  20. Row 67: Time to split the sleeves from the body!  K 119 95 sts & place a marker; slip 102 sts onto another knitting cable to "make" the first sleeve.  Cast on 43 43 sts and join it to the "back" side. K 120 95 sts & place a marker; slip 102 sts onto another knitting cable to "make the second sleeve.  Cast on 43 43 sts and join it to the "front"s side.
  21. Row 68: k139 133, p3 5, k126 133, p3 5 (291 276 sts)

  25. Bind off bottom.
*I had found a better way to make the ribbing on the bottom by following a hybird method (used a smaller sized needle & added 2 extra sts) I found on this website: https://www.google.com/amp/thecraftsessions.com/blog/2016/8/12/how-to-stop-hem-from-flipping%3fformat=amp

  25. Bind off.
It took me forever to do the right sleeve (I only had 1 pair of needles). Since I only have 5" needles, it was incredibly hard to knit up the sleeves - they were simply too long to really be knitting in such a small circumference. I don't know how I did the original sleeves!🤦   So, instead of powering through it, I stopped at Row 15 and I took on other smaller projects (& somewhat more important projects) until I (finally) picked up a set of Chiaogoo's 3" & 4" needles.

Now that I finally bought my shorter needles, I looked at my right sleeve and my notes above and couldn't make heads or tails of it.  So, I did the next most logical thing: I ripped out what little I did of the right sleeve and started over again.  While it was painful to do, it made the most sense to me since I couldn't figure out (even with my notes) what the heck I did with one side.  So, here's how the sleeves really went:
  1. Picked up 43 sts for a total of 147 sts
  2. Row 1-4 (4 rows): k the knits, p the purls (147 sts)
  3. Row 5: k3, ssk, p5, *k2tog, k6, k2tog*, repeat * 6 times, k2, *ssk, k6, ssk*, repeat * 5 times, ssk, k3 (total 119 sts, decreasing a total of 23 sts)
  4. Row 6-10 (5 rows): k the knits, p the purls (119 sts)
  5. Row 11k2, ssk, p5, *k2tog, k6*, repeat * 6 times, k2, *ssk, k6*, repeat * 5 times, k4 (total 105 sts, decreasing a total of 14 sts)
  6. Row 12-31 (20 rows): k the knits, p the purls (105 sts)
  7. Row 32: k, ssk, p5, *k2tog, k5*, repeat * 6 times, k2, *ssk, k5*, repeat * 5 times, k4 (total 91 sts, decreasing a total of 14 sts)
  8. Row 33-41 (9 rows): k the knits, p the purls (91 sts)
  9. Row 42: ask, pt, *k2tog, k2, k2tog*, repeat * 6 times, k2, *ssk, k2, ssk*, repeat * 5 times, ssk, k2 (total 63 sts, decreasing a total of 28 sts)
  10. Row 43-91 (49 row: k the knits, p the purls (63 sts)
  11. Row 92: ssk, P5, *k2tog, k2*, repeat * 6 times, k2, *ssk, k2*, repeat 5 times, k2 (total 49 sts, decreasing a total of 14 sts)
  12. Row 93-146 (54 rows): k the knits, p the purls (49 sts)
  13. Row 147: ssk, P5, *k2tog, k*, repeat 6 times, k2, *ssk, k*, repeat 5 times, k (total 35 sts, decreasing a total of 14 sts)
  14. Row 148-161 (14 rows): k the knits, p the purls (35 sts)
  15. Row 162: create 1x1 ribbing: k, p, k, p, k, p2tog, k2tog, *k, p*, repeat 4 times, k, p2tog, *k, p*, repeat 4 times, k2tog, p2tog (total 30 sts, decreasing a total of 5 sts)
  16. Row 163-176 (14 rows): k & p to create a 1x1 ribbing (30 sts)
  17. Bind off
Finally, I now have a sweater, not a body suit! 😋 🙌   Here's what it looks like now:
