More Harinezumi (ハリネズミ)

As you  may recall, back in 2018, I made a pair of harinezumis for my cousin's girls.  Now, her sister has a pair of boys and I have my very own niece so it was time to make a(nother) family of harinezumis for the new kiddos.

Now that I had some experience making them, I still had a few had a few bumps with the first one but it was significantly less than my very first one.  It did remind me about the irony of "fun fur" (& how it's not really "fun").  While it took me 2 days to finish the first (Limey) one, it really took me 8 hrs to complete it.  Like the purple one, my second Azure harinezumi only took me a day to complete.  And my final Azure one took me another day to complete.  I think the hardest part was having fur all over me (and my carpet), stuffing them evenly (so they didn't look so lumpy) and giving them a sweet face. 😲🤞

And, here's how the next gen looks like:

I hope the boys like their versions! 🥰
And, here's my niece's version (I hope she likes it!) 🥰😘. She can also hit up her Mom & Dad for their hedgehogs (I had gifted Pudgy & Purl to them as a part of their wedding gift) so she can have a family of hedgehogs. 😉🤭😁

Another Tabi for my Giri no Haha (義理 の 母 の 足袋) v3.0 (aka Tabi Monogatari v42)

My MIL asked for another pair of socks and here they are, a little different from her previous pairs of tabi this time. 😉😁  Just something that's the same but different and a little matchy matchy to her new uwabaki. 😉😁🤭👍

I also found an error in my original pattern for her so, here's the corrected version:

1. I started with a Provisional cast on with a total of 40 sts.
2. K 1 straight row on each side, then connected in the round.
3. Started the foot portion: K 15 rows in the round as part of the foot portion.
4. Then I started the toes: with 20 sts on each side, splitting it up for 10 sts for a swirl toe (17 rows).
5. Then I went back to the bottom of the provisional cast on and picked up the stitches to start the toes:

  • Row 17: k to the end then pick up a st for 2 sts on each side for a total of 21 sts on each side
  • Row 18: k
  • Row 19: k, increasing 1 stitch on each side for a total of 22 sts on each side
  • Row 20-22 (3 rows): k
  • Row 23: k, increasing 2 stitches on each side for a total of 24 sts on each side
  • Row 24-28 (5 rows): k
  • Row 29: k, increasing 2 stitches on each  side for a total of 26 sts on each side
  • Row 30-34 (5 rows): k
  • Row 35: k, increasing 2 stitches on each side for a total of 28 sts on each side
  • Row 36-62 (27 rows): k
  • Row 63: k, increasing 2 stitches on each side for a total of 30 sts on each side then start on the heel
  • Row 64: k
  • Including the initial 15 rows, this came out for a total of 16 cm (6 3/8 in)

6. Rows 65-130 (66 rows): With the foot done, I started on the heel portion using the Fishlips Kiss heel with 10 TWS & 10 regular stitches and half a mini heel flap.

7. With the heel done, I finished off the leg:
  • Row 131: k, maintaining a total of 30 sts on each side
  • Row 132: k2tog & SSK on each side for a total of 28 sts on each side
  • Row 133-140 (8 rows): k, maintaining a total of 28 sts on each side
  • Total length of the leg was 1.9 cm (5/8 in)
8. With the leg done, it was time to actually finish off the sock with a very short cuff; Mom said she wanted super short socks (*yay* homestretch!):
  • Row 141-160 (20 rows): complete cuff using 1x1 ribbing, maintaining 28 sts, for a total of 9.5 cm (3 1/2 in) of ribbing
  • Bound off using a variation of the Estonian bind off, in which I picked up a stitch from the row below then used the Estonian bind off technique. :)
  • The total length of the leg and cuff was 6 cm (2 7/16in)

And, here's what it looks like:

I hope she likes it ... 🙏😉😁

Girl no Haha to Mama no Usagi Uwabaki (義理 の 母 と 母 の うさぎ 上履き)

I had recently came across Churchmouse Yarns & Tea's Family Bunny Slippers pattern and just fell in love with it! 🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️ Since it was around Valentine's Day and both of my mother's were telling me how cold it's been, it was a perfect opportunity for me to try my hand at these slippers (aka uwabaki (上履き)). 😉👍😁

After a false start (which was totally on me as I didn't thoroughly read the pattern at first), this pattern is actually a really quick knit and wasn't too hard at all, particularly once you get a basic idea of what you're supposed to do and can see how it's supposed to shape up.  I had a few false starts with the ears as well (also because it's been a while since I wrapped and turned anything) but that too, was quick to make once I figured out what I was doing and I actually was able to finish up the uwabaki quite quickly after that.  In reality, a pair of uwabaki could be done in less than a day.

I did make a few adjustments for my Girl no haha's version as the actual medium size seemed too big for her; instead of 35 rows for the foot, I did 30 rows; then I knitted 15 rows for the toes and made the medium ears (I was thinking I could made small ears so that it could be a dwarf bunny🐰 but the small ears were way too small 😔🤷).  Here's how her uwabaki came out:

Then for my mom, I made her version using the small size with 28 rows for the foot, 11 rows for the toes and the S ears.  Her uwabaki came out super cute! 🥰❤️😍 (it was so cute that I seriously contemplated about "stealing" her uwabaki! 😲😁🤭. Fortunately for my mom, I rarely ever have cold feet so, having a pair of these uwabaki would be wasted on me. 😭🤷😋🤭). Here's how her uwabaki turned out:

I hope they find their uwabaki keeps them nice and warm as well as bring them a smile whenever they look at it! 🐰🥰😍❤️

UP-DATE: I was finally able to deliver my MIL's Uwabaki to her and ... she loves it!  Here's what they look like on her:

My own mother also (finally) received her Uwabaki and she loves it too!  Here's what they look like on her:
