Using my Chiaogoo Spin US 8 needles, I used the dark grey yarn and casted on 90 sts, using a long-tail cast on.

And, here's what it looks like:
This was a very interesting project for me since I have never made a stripped object in which I had to carry colors up before, much less doing it with four (4) different colors at the same time! :P I also learned a new knot that was very cool use (so cool, that I might use this knot from now on! ;)). :)
Amazingly, I still had some leftover yarn; so, I also made fingerless mitts for my mom as well. Thanks, Mom for helping me use up my stash! ;) ♡
Here's what I did for both the right and left side:
And here's how it turned out:
I'm very glad I had this opportunity to make these items as it really taught me how to carry colors up from one area to another (which now gives me some experience for my sweater projects). ;) I hope both my mom and her friend enjoy their items (and that it keeps them warm on their trip!). :)
With the brim down, the hat measures 28 cm (11 in) and with the brim folded up, it measures 21 cm (8 1/2 in).
