Yarn Bombing Maryann

For years, I have always wanted a wooden rocking chair.  Then one year, a few years ago, Hubs found me "the one".  This woman was downsizing and was ready to part with her rocking chair; but before she was ready to let go of her chair, she wanted to tell me how she got her chair.  Her story: an old boyfriend in her 20s had given her the rocker as a gift as she too always wanted a rocker.  She loved it so much that everywhere she moved, it moved with her.  After enjoying it these years where it has been well loved, she was finally ready to part with it.  And no, she took the chair and left that boyfriend.  I was so smitten by her story that I decided that I would name the rocker after her.

Hence, Maryann came home with us.  When I went to see Maryann, I noticed that she was kept on a small rug to protect her (and the hardwood floors).  After we took Maryann home, I always made sure to keep Maryann on a towel or rug.  However, it was a bit tedious to always ensure that Maryann was always on something that didn't keep shifting every time I sat in her.  So, it's been on my mind to yarn bomb Maryann's feet for some time (to give her a pair of "socks") and I finally mustered up the courage to "just do it".  I measured one of her leg's width (in the front & back, it was 11.5cm in circumference and in the middle, it was 13cm circumference); then using my Denise 5.5 mm needles (US9) and my Red Heart pale yellow and mystery white yarn, here's what I did:

1. Cast on 13 sts.
2. Knit Moss Stitch.
3. Continue with Moss St, increasing by 1 st for 2 rows (total 15 sts).
4. Continue with Moss St for 5 rows (maintaining 15 sts).
5. Decrease by 4 sts for a total of 11 sts.
6. Continue Moss St for 1 row (maintaining 11 sts).
7. Increase by 4 sts for a total of 15 sts.
8. Continue Moss St for 1 row (maintaining 15 sts).
9. Increase by 1 st for a total of 16 sts.
10. Continue Moss St for 80 rows (maintaining 16 sts).
11. Decrease by 4 sts for a total of 11 sts.
12. Continue Moss St for 3 rows (maintaining 11 sts).
13. Increase by 4 sts for a total of 16 sts.
14. Continue Moss St for 38 rows (maintaining 16 sts).
15. Decrease 1 st for 2 rows (for a total of 14 sts)
16. Continue Moss St for 2 rows (maintaining 14 sts).
17. Decrease 1 st for 5 rows (for a total of 9 sts)
18. Bind off.
19. Repeat Row 1-18 for other leg.
19. Seam edges together (with a highly contrasting yarn so that if I wanted to take it off to wash, I wouldn't have to cut it off).

Here's what Maryann's new "socks" looks like:

Seamed (see the "toes" & "heels"?😉)
Maryann with her "socks" on 😍♥️😉
I know, I know - you're like: Ummmm ... did you know we can see your seaming?  Yes, I did that on purpose so that in case I wanted to take it off to wash (socks do get dirty over time!), it was easy to do so and see where I seamed everything up (so I could put it back after I washed it).😉

Now, Maryann is ready to go onto any flooring type and her legs should be safe on any surface! 🎉🙌♥️
