Knit in Public Day 2023

Today was Knit in Public Day and ... I didn't knit in Public today.  I did manage to get some knitting done (and undone) though  (more on that in a bit).  A major reason why I chose not to got out in Public today was mainly due to the way life for us is now.  COVID is still rampant but, for most "normal" folks, they simply don't care any more.  It's more important to get on with life (without masks) than to bother with public health safety (or even bother to mask).  We're an immunocompromised family and attitudes like this could mean life or death for us.  This means that life now is even more precarious than when COVID was "a thing" as people are generally unmasked and largely uncaring that they could be spreading COVID or simply tell others that they've "caught a cold" and not really care what they really caught (or are really passing along).  It also means that going out is simply d-a-n-g-e-r-o-u-s now.  Which in turn means, we need to really consider how important it is for us to be "out" in public now; as such, knitting in public was not necessary task/something we absolutely need to do.

Knitting has been a stretch for me of late since I've been so busy at work; I have absolutely no brain power to knit after long 10-12 hour work days.  However, I did manage to get enough energy to: (finally), knit a finger slide for my Hubs and rip back 11 rows of a test knit I have been working on (I thought I'd be fancy and try adding stripes to the test knit only to realize 11 rows later that my "brilliant" idea may not actually be so brilliant! 😳🤦🤷) and untangle & clean up all the yarn barf I created by ripping back my knitting.

I know that this doesn't sound like much but for me, it was A-LOT and I'm pretty proud that I was (actually) able to knit on Knit in Public Day.

Hubs wanted to play his guitar a bit more comfortably and he found this pattern and asked me to make it for him.  Using some of my scrap sock yarn and my Chiaogoo US0/2.0mm needles, in my usual fashion, I mostly followed the pattern. 😉😁  Here's the few changes I made:

  • Instead of 17 rows for the "neck", I made 20 rows.
  • Instead of an I-cord "ring", I decided to make a thicker 5 sts band for 20 rows
Here's what it looks like:
And here's what it looks like in use:
I hope this works for him! 🤞
