It Started with a Baby Blanket

My lil' bro and his wife is expecting!  You know what that means ... time for another baby blanket. This blanket will be a very special one as it will be the first on our side of the family. So, I was looking forward to finding just the right pattern for the new baby. I scoured Ravelry and found all this:
Cute/Cool ones:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gingham-knit-blanket really neat but not bright enough
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/plaid-baby-blanket-2  really cool but not cool enough for a baby - maybe more for a teenager or adult??

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cow-spots-blanket very cool but not colourful enough
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/villi-pohjola super cute! but I wanted something more ... classic

Since I really wanted it to be a colourful blanket (who doesn't love all colours in the rainbow and then some, right?), I thought perhaps the way to go was to find interesting ways to use multiple colours or ways to integrate texture with multiple colours.  So I found these:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ombre-baby-blanket-3 cool but too ... simple
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/textured-stripes-blanket-2 ditto
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/easy-baby-blanket-8 ditto
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/alexs-blanket ditto
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gradient-garter-baby-blanket ditto

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mini-mania-scarf ditto
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/frankies-blankie-week-4 ditto
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/color-field-baby-blanket really neat but it seems a bit ... limiting
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pastille-baby ditto

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sweet-treat-baby-blanket cool stitch pattern
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bramble-baby-blanket ditto
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bulky-baby-bubble-blanket ditto
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/woven-basket-stitch-dishcloth ditto

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/square-5-pennies-from-heaven ditto
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/honeycomb-baby-blanket-6 really cute but it seems like I needed to get gradient yarn ...
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/honeycomb-stripes-blanket really cute but would it allow more colours??
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/honeycomb-throw-2 ditto

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mosaic-chevron-knit-blanket ditto
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/not-your-normal-baby-blanket really cool but would it take me forever??
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rainbow-entrelac-baby-blanket ditto

Ultimately, I found these patterns:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hexagon-cushion-cover
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hexi
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/kesan-lapsi
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hex-y-motif
The hexagon pattern was exactly what I was looking for in the perfect baby blanket that would allow me to have multiple bright colours for the new young one in our lives.  It was modern, chic and allowed me to use as many colors as Hubby would let me buy! ;)

I went to our local Walmart and found these:
It's a good start for me.  I wondered how many stripes i can get out of it ... It turns out that I managed to get eleven (11) stripes (seven (7) hexagon a stripe) and I still had left over yarn.  Here's how it turned out:
Since I still had a lot of leftover yarn (and Hubby said that I simply did not understand what a baby blanket means (he just won't accept that I do things big ... Literally! 😉)), I also made our little one this:
Because my lil' bro really wanted this (Pattern: Garden Cocoon)
And this:
(well, she should have something newborn sized (Pattern: Swirl))
And this:
(these lil' booties were soooooo cute! (Pattern: Baby Hug Boots))
We'll see what else I end up making for our lil' one. 😍
